Pack 1980 at ScoutFest 16

Posted on Oct 15 2016 - 8:31pm

A group of 50 Cub Scouts, parents, and family members from Readington Cub Scout Pack 1980 recently participated in ScoutFest 16 held over the weekend of October 7-9 at the Hunterdon County Fairgrounds.

A huge shout out to Herb Ryder and Dan McDonald for giving their whole day to organize our Pack 1980 cub car station!!!  Thank you to all of our Pack 1980 Leaders and parents who supported our pack at ScoutFest by donating an hour or two to run our cub car station or chaperone scouts of parent volunteers.  Thank you to Scott Mikaelian, Scott Armstrong, and Herb Ryder for keeping so many of our cub cars running throughout the day, despite the hard miles put on each one. Thanks to our scouts who also lent a hand with the cub car station to wave the flags for set-up, start, final lap, and finish.

Thank you also to Herb Ryder for being our Pack 1980 Leader for ScoutFest (by attending all of the meetings that led up to this event) and by being our leader in camp at ScoutFest for all of the Pack 1980 Scouts who ate Saturday dinner and camped over either Friday or Saturday night at ScoutFest!

Thank You to Pack 1980 Cub Scouts who Participated in the Cub Day of Service 2016 at Spruce Run

Thank you to Pack 1980 Webelos scouts Zachary and Mason for joining with other Cub Scouts from Hunterdon County for an afternoon of litter clean-up at Spruce Run Reservoir for the Cub Day of Service 2016.

Pack 1980 welcomed new and returning scouts to the September Kick-off Meeting, featuring a hands-on workshop by Mad Science.  Boys learned about basic machines in the Mad Machines workshop through hands-on experimentation with catapults, a demonstration of wheels, and by building their own rubber-band powered car.  Follow the "read more" link to see additional pictures.

Congratulations to Pack 1980 Cub Scouts Who Earned National Summertime Pack Award for Summer 2016

Posted on Sep 3 2016 - 10:01am

Pack 1980 held 10 different Summertime Pack Activities to keep the fun of Cub Scouting going throughout the summer. Boys who participated in three summertime pack events are eligible to receive the National Summertime Award pin.  This year, Pack 1980 had 34 Cub Scouts who were active throughout the summer.   Follow the "read more" link to see a complete list.  All boys who earn the National Summertime Award will be presented with a pin at a fall pack meeting.  Congratulations scouts and thank you to all leaders who planned summer activities!

Note:  The summertime award scouts receive will match the rank badge they are wearing (most recently completed) rather than the rank they are working on - boys who have attained the rank of Tiger will receive the Tiger pin because that is the rank badge they earned at our Family Campout and are now wearing on their uniform.

Pack 1980 Cub Scouts End Summer with Family Bike Ride on the Columbia Trail

Posted on Sep 1 2016 - 8:08am

A group of twenty-seven from Pack 1980, supporting eleven Cub Scouts, enjoyed a quiet evening for a ride on the Columbia Trail.  The group pedaled from the High Bridge trailhead to the bridge spanning the Ken Lockwood Gorge before turning back for home.  The scouts all had the stamina to do more, but the late summer sun had begun to fade.  Next year the family bike ride may have to move to a weekend so that our young scouts can really stretch their legs!

Pack 1980 Scouts Put "Out" in "Scouting" with Fishing and Outdoor Cooking Summer Activity!

Posted on Aug 27 2016 - 8:34pm

A good time was had by all who attended the Fishing & Outdoor Cooking summer pack meeting.  The fish were biting for some more than others, but we had a beautiful evening to enjoy our New Jersey skylands!  Thank you to Vickie Szymanski family for arranging for the use of the Hunterdon ESC facility.  Thank you to Tim Barckholtz for cooking our yummy Dutch oven desserts -  chocolate s'mores cobbler and gluten-free peach cobbler.
