CONGRATULATIONS to PINEWOOD DERBY DISTRICT WINNERS!

Congratulations to Josh for a first place in the Webelos race at the Hunterdon Arrowhead District Pinewood Derb!.  His red Ferrari emblazoned car averaged 207.6 mph in the district heats.  This feat qualified Josh to also run in the Grand Finals where he took home a monster 3rd Place trophy.  Congratulations Josh! 

  

Congratulations also to Chase who won the best design entry for a Tiger Scout and to J.T. who won the District Executive's Choice award for overall best design.

And, a shout-out to Webelos Leader Dan McDonald who emcee'd the Pinewood Derby Races!  Thank you for representing Pack 1980 and serving Cub Scouts throughout Hunterdon County!

Pack 1980 Cub Scouts Help with RHA Stream Clean-up 2016

In two hours, a small team of Pack 1980 Cub Scouts, former Cub Scouts/current Boy Scouts, and den leaders cleaned up trash throughout YMCA Camp Carr property and along the banks of the South Branch of the Raritan River.  The boys picked up plastic bags and bottles, cans and food wrappers. Some more unusual items were also found included flip-flops, a wiffle ball, an old playground ball, and a jawbone.  The annual Raritan Headwaters Association Stream Cleanup includes towns across Hunterdon, Somerset, and Morris Counties along 47 miles of local streams and rivers.

  

Pack 1980 Cub Scout Families Pack Meals for Feed My Starving Children

Pack 1980 Cub Scout Families joined with other volunteers for the Friday, April 1st shift to pack meals for Feed My Starving Children.  Cub Scouts, Den Leaders, and family members helped to scoop the veggies, protein, soy, and rice ingredients, weigh the Manna Packs, and prepare the meals for shipment.  During the Pack 1980 team volunteer shift, over 16,000 meals were packed to go to starving children around the world.

   

Pack 1980 Teams Earn Ribbons at Yukon Trail 2016

Pack 1980 Scouts had a beautiful "fall" day in March to have fun at the Hunterdon Arrowhead Yukon Trail 2016.  Scouts competed as a team in challenges offered by packs and troops in the district and earned several ribbons!

  • Tiger Scouts [Jack L. & Chase W.]:  1st Place Team Ski/River Crossing; 2nd Place Iditarod; 3rd Place Shelter Building
  • Bear Scouts [Zachary B., Logan C., Jack I.]:  2nd Place Team Ski/River Crossing; 2nd Place Shelter Building; 2nd Place Archery; 3rd Place Gold Panning
  • Webelos Scouts [Alexander B., Ryan L., Josh M., Dylan M., Jack M., Adithya R., J.T. W.]: 1st Place Shelter Building; 2nd Place Shelter Building; 3rd Place Gold Panning

    

Cub Scouts Enjoy Pack Overnight at the Franklin Institute

Pack 1980 Cub Scouts and family members enjoyed a night filled with science-themed activities, exhibits, and demonstrations at the Franklin Institute.  Scouts learned about physiology and physics in a science of sports demonstration to start the evening and finished the evening with the mind-blowing "Dark Universe" show in the planetarium.  In the morning, everyone enjoyed "Humpack Whales" in the IMAX before having additional free time to explore the exhibits at the Franklin Institute.

   

Celebration of Scout Achievements at Pack 1980 Blue & Gold Banquet

Pack 1980 was proud to recognize that 12 of its Webelos II Scouts who formed the Tiki Patrol Scouts earned the Arrow of Light Award.  Readington Reformed Church presented Tyler Francfort with the Cub Scout of the Year Award in recognition of his scout achievements, extra-curricular activities, and service in the community, making special note of Tyler’s enthusiasm for Cub Scouting and his commitment to live out the scout oath and law.
